It was one of the hottest days of the dry season. We had not seen rain in almost a month. The crops were dying.Cows had stopped giving milk. The streams were long gone back into the earth. If we didn't seesome rain soon we would lose everything.

I was in the kitchen making lunch for the family when I saw my six year- old son,Billy, walking toward the woods.I could only see his back.He wasn't walking in his usual way.He was obviously walking with a great effort, trying to be as still aspossible.Minutes after he disappeared into the woods,he came running out again, toward the house.

Moments later, however,he was once again walking in that slow and purposeful step toward the woods. This activity went on for over anhour:walking cautiously tothe woods, then running back to thehouse. Finally,my curiosity got the best of me.I crept out of the house and followed him on his journey.

He was cupping both hands in front of him as he walked;being very careful not to spill thewater he carried.Branches and thorns slapped(拍打)his little face but he did not try to avoid them.He had a much greaterpurpose. As I leaned against a tree to spy on him,Isaw the most amazing site.

Several large deers appeared threatening in front of him.But Billy walked right up to them.I almost screamed for him to get away.AndI saw a baby deer laying on the ground, obviously suffering from heavy loss of water and heat exhaustion, lift its head with great effort to lap(舔饮) up the water in my beautiful boy's hand.

Paragraph 1:

When the water was gone,Billy jumped up to run back to the house. Paragraph 2:

And later I knew what was going on.

My curiosity once again drove me to follow him back. After he reached the kitchen, heturned on the tap.As he was trying hard to cup both hands to receive the water,it was still running away through his fingers. And he also had great difficulty turning off the tap with hands occupied. He seemed to be so sorry and selfcondemned for his wasting of water.Wearing a note of upset on his face,he carried it carefully toward the woods.

AndlaterIknewwhatwasgoingon. It began to make sense to me why he wasn't walking in his usual way.I stood on the edge of the woods watching the most beautiful heart working so hard to save a life.As my tears began to hit the ground, they were suddenly joined by other drops...and more drops. It was as if the nature itself was moved by the great effort made by my son and began to weep with pride.

Little snow had fallen this winter. For Reuven the frier(皮衣制作工) it was a bad year, and after long hesitation he decided to sell Zlateh the old goat. The town butcher had offered eightsilver coins for the goat. Reuven told his oldest boy, Aaron, to take the goat to town. Aaron understood what it meant, but he had to obey his father. Hissisters cried loudly.

Aaron took along two slices of bread to eat on the road. He needed to deliver the goat by evening and return the next day with the money. While the family said goodbye, Zlatch stood as patiently as ever. Zlateh trusted human beings.

The sun was shining when Aaron left. Suddenly the weather changed, and after awhile it began to snow. Soon their path was completely covered and Aaron got lost. Beneath the snow Aaron’s boots touched the softness of a plowed field. He realized that he was no longer on the road. Zlateh bleated (哀鸣) as if asking to be taken home. Aaron looked around hoping to find a farmer driving a sleigh(雪橇) along the way. But he could see nothing.

Aaron knew that if they did not find shelter, they would freeze to death. Suddenly he made out the shape of a hill. When he came near it, he realized that it was a large haystack (大干草堆)covered by snow. Aaron knew that they were saved. When he reached the hay, he dug a nest for himself and the goat. It was always warm in the hay. And hay wasfood for Zlateh.

Zlateh, sat down and seemed to have regained her confidence in man. Aaron ate his bread, but after the difficult journey he was still hungry. He looked at Zlatehand realized that he would not be starved to death. Goat’s milk was sweet.Zlateh ate frequently and her body gave forth an animal warmth, and Aaron hugged her tightly. The snow fell for 3 days and the windquieted down.

Paragraph1: .

Onthe morning of the fourth day, Aaron heard the ringing of sleigh bells.

Paragraph2:

The news that Aaron and Zlateh were coming up the road was a great joy in the family.

On the morning of the fourth day, Aaron heard the ringing ofsleigh bells. 所以应该写Aaron从干草堆里出来后发生的事情,由首句的“Aaron heard the ringing if sleigh bells”,可知,要描述的内容应该是Aaron和羊如何获得雪橇主人的救助,比如大声呼喊;同时,由于前文提供的线索“Goat's milk was sweet. Zlateh ate frequently andher body gave forth an animal warmth, and Aaron hugged her tightly.(羊奶是甜的。Zlateh频繁地吃干草,她的身体发出动物般的温暖,Aaron紧紧地拥抱着她。)可知,本段还应该描写Aaron在与羊建立了深刻感情之后的不忍分离等;第二段开头是The news that Aaron and Zlateh were coming upthe road was a great joy in the family. ( Aaron 和Zlateh在回家路上的消息,使全家人都非常高兴。)本段应该描写家人的反应,情节和细节上要回应上文,尤其突出描写父亲的反应和变化,比如父亲改变的对羊的态度,不再卖掉或给与羊奖赏等,文末要进行主题升华。

还要注意所续写短文的词数应为150左右,按要求完成写作任务。

【点睛】本文描写详略得当,使用了高级词汇和高级句子。如:

1.高级词汇:get out of; make up one’s mind; point out; rushout; in tears; think of

Aaronshouted loudly to the peasant who drove the sleigh for help.

Aaron told them in tears how he had found the haystack and how Zlateh had fed him with her milk in the past few days.

Nobody ever again thought of selling Zlateh, who had been an import family member tothem.

At home that afternoon, Tim stared at the plastic rat ball.Wondering about the use of the clear plastic ball if Dana had no rat, he started walking up and down the room with a frown on his face. Mom was surprised and asked him whatwas happening. Tim told her Dana wasn’t getting a live rat from her parents but a bike. As they were racking their brains to come up with an appropriate gift,Tim turned around and saw Nezumi on his bed.

All of a sudden, he had an idea. “What about buying a live rat for Dana as shelikes rats so much?” Tim asked. Mom smiled and gave him a thumbs-up. Again theydrove to the pet store, where Tim found some lovely small rats, each in its own cage running around full of energy. Carefully he examined them one by one and finally chose a gray one looking quite like Nezumi. “This certainly is a surprise yet the best!” Tim beamed at it.
