Located in suburban Illinois, it's a setup any cook would drool over -- combining the kitchen, living room, and dining room into one great space. The custom cabinets are made of bamboo, a material that's increasingly being used in the kitchen for its durability. And the turquoise countertops, manufactured in Kentucky, are made of Avonite. The appliances, some of which are on the market now, showcase the latest trends in cooking. Here's a look at some of the gadgets and gizmos inside Kraft's pantry.
This freestanding, two-burner stove top -- which is just finding its way into the retail market -- uses electromagnetic energy to heat pots and pans. Since there's no coil or other open heat source, it's safer than traditional electric and gas ranges. The sleek, flat-top surface is easy to clean, and the induction technology tends to be more energy efficient.
Given the growing popularity of outlets such as Jamba Juice, fresh-fruit drinks are finding their way into homes. This stainless-steel juicer not only looks good into today's modern kitchen but gives consumers an easy way to juice apples, tomatoes, or other fresh foods.
Increasingly, consumers are switching from stand mixers to food processors like this one from Cuisinart. It not only handles a cook's mixing needs but can shred, chop, and slice. "We wanted to keep our pulse on the trends in food processing, because a lot of people use them in recipe preparation," says Myers.
This appliance, which is making its way from restaurants to kitchens, allows consumers to grill a sandwich without any butter or oil. It can also be used to grill meats without any additional fat. Now you can have your panini, and eat it at home.
Chop, blend, and whisk right in the pot or pan, eliminating the need to mess up additional dishes.
Trend: Health & Wellness
Availability: Custom designed for the Kraft kitchen. Basic scales are available at most kitchen goods stores.
Food scales are a key to portion control and accurate measurements. This tricked-out version, developed by Kraft, is connected to an online database of recipes -- so the computerized sous-chef can tell you if you need more cheese or veggies for your meal.
Trend: Customization, Convenience
This single-serve hot-beverage machine from Kraft serves up cappuccinos, lattes, tea, and hot chocolate. It's sort of like having a Starbucks barista in your home, but cheaper. Each cappuccino costs less than $1.
Most people run a half-empty dishwasher. This double-drawer system with two completely independent dishwashers allows you to run a smaller load, or run two different types of loads -- say, one with delicate crystal and another with heavy-soiled pans.
This oven does double duty, switching from a refrigeration mode to a heating mode, so you can set it in the morning and have a meal waiting for your family at night. The folks at Kraft modified what's currently on the market to create a next-generation model, one that can be set remotely from a computer or a cell phone.
