1993 Droog Design is founded in Amsterdam by Gijs Bakker and Renny Ramakers. They organize an exhibition of 14 products during the Milan Furniture Fair.
1994 Stages a second Droog Design exhibition during the Milan Furniture Fair. From then onwards, Droog stages an annual exhibition in Milan. DMD, a Dutch company, agrees to manufacture and distribute the Droog collection.
1995 Develops the Dry Tech 1 collection of products designed by young designers from new materials in collaboration with Delft University. One of the results is the famous knotted chair by Marcel Wanders. Solo exhibition in Kunsthal Rotterdam.
1996 Continues the Dry Tech project by launching Dry Tech II.

1997 Collaborates with Rosenthal, the German porcelain maker, to develop a series of prototype porcelain pieces created by designers within the Droog circle. Utrecht Centraal Museum acquires all the Droog products made from 1993 to 1996 for its collection and publishes the book Droog Design 1991-1996. Prix d’Excellence de la Maison, awarded by the French magazine Marie Claire.

1998 The book Droog Design: Spirit of the Nineties edited by Bakker and Ramakers is published by 010 Publishers in Rotterdam. Droog receives the Dedalus Prize for European design. Exhibition at Murray Moss Store in New York.
1999 Begins collaborations with Mandarina Duck, Flos, Salviati, Bang @ Olufsen, We and Levi Strauss. The Utrecht Central Museum acquires Droog products made from 1993 to 1999 for its collection. Wins George Nelson award.

2000 Works with NL Architects on the design of the Mandarina Duck flagship store in Paris. Participates in the New York Times millennium competition. Presents the project ‘do create’ in Milan, in collaboration with communication agency KesselsKramer. Receives Kho Liang Ie Prize awarded by the City of Amsterdam.
2001 During the Milan Furniture Fair, Droog exhibits a collection of variations on the traditional wooden cigar box devised by a group of young designers and manufactured by Picus, the Dutch cigar box maker. Participates in the ‘010101- Art in Technological Times’ exhibition in the San Franciso Museum of Modern Art with the project ‘System Almighty’.
2002 The book Less + More, Droog Design in context by Renny Ramakers is launched at the Milan Furniture Fair, where Droog stages an exhibition of design interventions in an old hotel. DMD is acquired by The Product Matters, an Amsterdam-based company with which Droog agrees a manufacturing, marketing and distribution deal. Gijs Bakker and Renny Ramakers curate the Conran Foundation Collection 2002 at the Design Museum, London.

2003 Opens gallery and shop in Amsterdam. Retrospective ‘No Design, No Style, Droog Design’ in Seoul Arts Center, Seoul. Designs coffee shop ‘Dutch Room’ for Baltic House Theatre in St.Petersburg. Participates in Steet Furniture project of Tokyo Mori Building Company. Ends collaboration with The Product Matter and starts own company for manufacturing and distribution.
2004 Launch of the retrospective ‘Simply Droog. 10 + I years of creating innovation and discussion’ in Haus der Kunst in Munich. This touring exhibition travels to Bremen and The Hague. Publication of the book ‘Simply Droog’. Designs the coffee bar in the headquarters of the European Council in Brussels, commissioned in honour of the Dutch Presidency of the European Union in 2004. Launch of the first Droog Event, Open Borders, in Lille, France, in the realm of Lille Cultural Capital 2004 festivities. This event included a 2000m2 exhibition on new concepts in art, design and architecture, events and workshops in the exhibition space and the city and a collaboration with regional companies. The Droog gallery moves to a bigger space in Amsterdam.
