对话人物：Ann-Sophie Choi

Sophie 在德国出生，在德国成长，她的血统也十分的“国际化”——父亲为韩德混血，母亲为台湾人，这样文化多元的家庭环境赋予了Sophie卓越的语言天赋。

Sophie的母语为德语，但她的英文却相当的“native speaker”（相信小伙伴们都已经有所体会）。同时Sophie通过了法文鉴定考试，在爸爸的影响下能够完全听懂韩语，做做西班牙语的翻译也是洒洒水的事啦～（我和我的小伙伴们都惊呆了）。

然而，她为了追求自己对中国文化及中文的热爱，毅然决然地来到了咱们学校！（撒花）努力上进如她，经常在管理课堂上被林碧莲博士表扬有着独出心裁的idea！她的身上有着东方的独特情怀和西方的自由精神，如今选择了来到中国继续求学。可以说，这是一个有故事的女生。

一开始为什么选择来中国读大学？又是为什么选择了港中大深圳？

Why did you choose to go to University in China? And why did you choose CUHK(SZ)?

和我的高中同学不同，我一直相信在我人生中的某个节点，我会回到亚洲，这个我生命开始的地方。在我的同学当中，很多人希望去英国、荷兰或美国学习，但这些西方国家对我远没有那么大的吸引力。中国以她优美的语言、悠久的历史、古老的传统文化深深吸引了我。所以我上网搜索了一些优秀的大学，并最终选择了CUHK(SZ)。

I always knew that at some point in my life I would go back to Asia to live and to see where I come from, which was a little different from my fellow students. Many of them went for their studies to England, the Netherlands, or the United States, but these Western countries never appealed to me. I chose China because of the language and the long history, its ancient culture and traditions. And so I searched online for some good universities and chose CUHK(SZ).

在校一年的生活中有没有什么文化差异导致的不适应？

Have you experienced a culture shock or did you find it hard to adapt to life in China?

尽管存在文化差异，但那正是我选择这里的原因。虽然刚开始遇到了一些困难，但在朋友的帮助下，我可以自豪地说我很好地适应了新环境。

Of course there were cultural differences, but that is exactly the reason why I am here. After some initial difficulties, I am happy to say that I adapted to the environment quite well, thanks to several helping friends.

觉得与同学相处得怎么样？有没有交到很nice的朋友？

How do you get along with your fellow students? Have you found some nice friends here?

我觉得自己非常幸运可以在这里获得珍贵的友谊。我的室友都非常体贴照顾，除了她们，我也找到几个和自己志趣相投的朋友。其实一开始我非常担心语言和文化的差异会使我在这里找不到朋友，但现在证明那都不是问题。恰恰相反，我从朋友身上学到了很多东西，我开始享受一个真正的中国——学说正宗的普通话，吃地道的中国食物，玩最好玩儿的地方。谢谢你们带给我这么好的体验！

I am grateful for the friendships I have made; I think I have been really lucky. My roommates are all especially sweet and caring, and aside of them, I found a few people, with whom I am very close. Actually, I was quite worried that I could not find friends here, due to a culture or language barrier, but it turned out that this is no problem at all. Quite the contrary, we learn a lot from each other and because of my friends, I am primarily able to experience the real China – learn to speak “authentic Mandarin”, eat “real, authentic Chinese food” and to see the most interesting places! Thank you guys for that!

我们知道Sophie你很擅长摄影，可以跟我们讲一讲你跟摄影的故事吗？

We know you are a good photographer; can you tell us where your passion for photography comes from?

对我来说，摄影是一种捕捉并记录美的艺术。我被这项艺术深深吸引并且投注了我全部的热情。我以前从没学过专业的摄影，常常是凭直觉拍照，靠灵感来修剪。虽然自学了必不可少的技能，但是为了充分发挥创造力，我需要学习合适的工具帮助我更好地实践我的想法——这就是我最近要更深入地学习反光式照相机和专业修图软件的原因。

For me, photography is to capture beauty and to make statements. I am really into the arts and my passion for photography just came to me one day. I have never learnt professional photography and until now I always intuitively took photos and edited by instinct. I taught myself the most necessary skills, but in order to be able to give free rein to my creativity, I need to know the tools, which can help me to fully realize my ideas. This is why I am currently learning the features of reflex cameras and professional editing soft wares in a greater extent.

在CUHK(SZ)的一年里，有参加摄影活动吗？

Have you joined any photography activities in the last year？

我们去到香港度过了一个周末，住在一个位于小山上，有着绝佳观景效果的青年旅舍。P.I.C.（摄影社）找到一些模特，我们都不舍得放下手中的相机，进行了一些街拍。那是我第一次真正地探索香港这座城市，我必须承认自己被这所城市深深吸引。这样一座多元、生动并且充满艺术气息的城市，简直是一个杰作！

We went to Hong Kong for a weekend and stayed at a youth hostel on top of a small mountain with a marvellous view of Hong Kong’s skyline! P.I.C. booked some models and we all grabbed our cameras and did some street style photography. It was the first time for me to really explore HK and I must admit that I have absolutely fallen for this city. Hong Kong is so diverse, vivid and artistic; it was such a blast!

除了摄影，还喜欢什么？参加了什么社团活动？

What other things do you like except of photography? Have you been involved in other club activities?

除了参加摄影社，我也是武联社的一员。我开始学习舞剑，但实话说我觉得自己没有那方面的天赋。虽然的我的表现根本算不上惊艳甚至连贯，我的教练也经常笑话我，但之后她总会耐心地再把动作做一遍给我看。对我来说，武联社带来的不仅仅是训练，也是紧张学习后的一种放松。我和一些社员也变得更加亲密，所以周二晚上对我来说也是一个和“大家庭”一起聚会的时刻。

In addition to P.I.C., I am also a member of the Martial Art Union. I started to learn swordsmanship, but honestly I guess I am not that talented! ;-) Although my performances are anything but cool or even elegant, my trainer always just laughed at me but then patiently showed me the movements again. For me, M.A.U. was not only training, but also a fun relaxation after school. I also became rather close with some other members, so Tuesday evenings always became some kind of a meeting spot, where “the family” gathered together.

在这么多活动中有没有发现自己新的兴趣点？

Did you develop any new interests lately?

就像我之前提到的，我想继续学习绘画方面的知识并完成自己的作品。同时，我也对心理学和社会学很感兴趣，所以我正在努力地把这些兴趣结合起来。在“与人文对话”这门课程中，我读到了一些有趣的文本，也促使我在人类问题上获得更多的思考。

As I already mentioned, I want to further my knowledge in the arts area and do some artworks and projects by myself. I am also very interested in psychology and sociology, so I am trying to combine these interests. During the course “In Dialogue with Humanity” I read some interesting texts, which stimulated me to deal more about mankind issues, especially human rights.

所以你是一个喜欢新事物和挑战的人吗？

So are you the kind of person who loves new adventures and challenges?

当然是。事实上有两样我正在参加的项目可以说是会很有挑战性的。第一个是我和另外三个同学共同发起的一个起步项目。第二个是一个类似于模特经纪公司的艺术家索引网站，将通过有特色的脸和风格来传达个性。因此有一点特别需要提出的就是，我不仅仅是在寻找那些拥有“零号”身材和无痕美肌的传统意义上的模特，同时我也将搜寻一些长得很有特色的人，有些可能甚至是有点异于常人的长相。因为正如Karl Lagerfeld说的，“我不喜欢普通的美，没有奇思妙想就没有美可言”。通过这个项目我想告诉大家，其实在我们传统审美之外，还有很多非常独特的，但还未受到社会普遍认可的美丽。

Absolutely. There are actually two projects I am currently engaged in, which I am sure will be challenging. The first one is a start-up, which I will launch with three other fellow students. The second project is an artist index website, something similar to a model agency, which will represent personalities with interesting faces and styles. Thereby it is especially important to note that I am not only in search of ordinary models, with size-zero bodies and flawless skin, but I will rather scout people with special, and maybe even a little odd looks, because, as Karl Lagerfeld says, “I don’t like standard beauty, there is no beauty without strangeness”. With this project, I want to show that there are also many unique beauties out there, which are yet unappreciated by society.

希望自己的大学生活是怎样的？

What do you want to do during your college years?

理想中未来的自己是一个怎样的人？

What kind of person do you want to be?

诺贝尔奖得主Arieh Warshel教授在CUHK(SZ)2015年开学典礼上对我们的欢迎致辞给我留下了深刻的印象，他说：“我在此也敦促诸位胸怀世界，兼济天下，思考自身对于解决全球问题可以发挥的作用，如何藉平生所学提高社区、国家和社会福祉。”我知道我度过的人生是非常幸福的，所以我希望我可以为这个世界做出一点贡献，做一个回馈社会、回报世界的人。

At the 2015 CUHK(SZ) inauguration ceremony, Nobel laureate Prof. Arieh Warshel gave a welcoming speech for us freshmen, which had a deep impact on me. He said: “I also challenge you to look around at the world issues that touch you the most and begin to ask what your role is in addressing them. How will you use this knowledge to improve your community, country and society at large?” I know that I have been very blessed in my life and I hope that I can give a little bit back.
