In 2020

Sudden outbreak of COVID-19

Disrupted the original course plan

Yet teachers tackle the problem head-on

They stay on the job

By teaching online

Today is the 36th Teachers' Day in China. Thus, we invited three of our teachers to share their thoughts on education. They may have different starting points, but they all put the heart into their cause and students. Let's have a look.

Pinchas Shlomai

Our job is to do the best possible to help you

"The idea of becoming a teacher came to my mind during my senior year in the Technion," said Pinchas Shlomai. He found himself able to simplify and clarify complicated questions in engineering to his classmates. More importantly, his explanations can help others understand the logic which lies behind those matters, which gives him a great sense of achievement. From then on, he decided to be a teacher.

After graduating from the Technion in 1988, he was on the faculty of the University. For him, it will be a great opportunity and interesting challenge to be part of newly founded university located in important region of the world that was unknown to him. "I am glad to discover that many of these students have independent ways of thinking, which is the prerequisite for becoming an outstanding engineer."Yet he also said that engineering courses are complicated and involves many formulas. The only way to master the knowledge is trying to understand the logic behind each subject and formula. "Don't be shy to ask questions. In my eyes, our job is to do the best possible to help you." With regard to the future of GTIIT, he said, "I am full of confidence. Everyone is devoted to the success and advancement of the college, and I am confident that by continuing to do so – soon GTIIT will be among the leading and well-known universities."

Your questions help me better carry out teaching

"What has kept you teaching for almost 20 years?" When asked this question, Alon Dolev, who teaches the Principles of Chemical Engineering 2M course, smiled, "I enjoy sharing knowledge with others and hope this process can bring them thoughts about the significance and value of life. Everyone has multiple identities – may be a student, a teacher, a child or a parent – but before that, we should remember everyone is an individual and should respect each other." This is a credo that Alon has always stood by. In the classroom, he fully respects each participant's right to pursue knowledge and encourage them to speak up. Students said that he would joke with them from time to time in order to better engage them in class interaction. "They don't need to be afraid of asking questions." In Alon's opinion, these questions help him to do a better job of teaching. Although he has only been in GTIIT for a short time, Alon Dolev comes to love it. "The university is small but warm." During the epidemic, he immediately participated in the donation when he learned that the Wuhan No.3 Hospital where the parents of his student in were in short supply. "In the last few months, I think a lot about my Chinese students. I realized we are all just human beings together on earth. I pray and hope for the best...and to meet again soon."

Help young generation to better fulfill their potential

What's your original aspiration to become a teacher? Wang Nan's answer is that, "I am lucky enough to meet different people and experience diverse cultures in my student years. Through that experience I gradually realize the importance of education. Many social, economic and psychological issues we have faced so far can be traced back to the education." As a teacher, he will be dedicated to helping young generation to better fulfill their potential.

Wang Nan has decided to embrace the journey of participating in the establishment of a brand-new university from the heart when he chose to join GTIIT. "It is like a growing plant in your garden. You carefully nurtured it and watch it grow." In his opinion, the Sino-foreign cooperative education gives GTIIT an opportunity to explore an approach that integrates Chinese and the Western advantages . Wang Nan Grew up in the Chinese education system. Later, he studied and worked in Northeastern University (U.S.A.), Purdue University, Pennsylvania State University and the McGill University, which deepens his understanding of the two education system. "As a diversified university, GTIIT provides a different way of teaching that helps inspire students to think outside the box, an advantage that is not available to most universities in China." He always encourages students to focus on what they like, find out how those things are related to the course materials, and explore how to apply the knowledge they learned in his daily teaching.

All of us were once students

We are grateful to every teacher met along the way

They impart our knowledge

Inspire our thinking

And lead us to grow

Thank you with all our hearts

Happy Teachers’ Day
