Vice Chancellor’s
New Year Greeting
Dear President Xi, XJTLU Colleagues and Students,
As you complete your final tasks before the Spring Festival break, I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
As we say goodbye to the Year of the Ox, it feels appropriate to take a moment to reflect on what was achieved. It was such an important year for us all as we celebrated the 15 year anniversary of the founding of XJTLU. That milestone represents 15 years of international collaboration, providing a first-class, global education for thousands of students and furthering research across a range of disciplines. Everyone at the University of Liverpool is proud of what XJTLU, its staff, students and alumni have achieved and we look forward to our next 15 years and more of collaboration. The celebrations themselves were wonderful – with highlights including the opening of three new academies and the public opening of the online XJTLU Learning Mall. Of course, each of you will have personally achieved a great deal over the last year, too, and I hope that over the break, you take a moment to reflect upon all that you have accomplished.
Some consider the Year of the Tiger to be about strength, bravery and big changes. I hope that whatever the New Year holds for you, it brings joy.
There will be celebrations across Liverpool as we mark the New Year. We have a range of activities taking place on campus, run both by the University and the Confucius Institute, and, of course, with one of the largest and oldest Chinese communities in Europe, there will be wider celebrations across the City of Liverpool, too.
However you plan to celebrate the New Year, from everyone here at the University of Liverpool, we wish you great happiness, health and prosperity for the New Year of the Tiger.
With all good wishes,
Professor Janet Beer
Vice Chancellor, University of Liverpool
