The proposals submitted by Altantsan to the third session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on May 21 were recently discussed by relevant ministries and commissions of the State Council.
Altantsan is the president of Inner Mongolia Normal University and a member of the National Committee of the CPPCC.
His proposals address speeding up the development of higher education in areas inhabited by ethnic minorities and optimizing an "internet +" Mongolian public platform on WeChat.
He explained that the development of universities and the formation of disciplines and professions in minority ethnic areas are currently slow – and the imbalance in discipline development has hindered the creation of master's degree programs.
As a result, the CPPCC member said that the quality and quantity of university graduates in these areas could not meet local socio-economic development needs.
Altantsan’s second proposal was to optimize the "internet +" Mongolian public platform on WeChat.
He proposed that the government office of the Inner Mongolia autonomous region select a suitable Mongolian typeface and freely license it to Tencent, the developer of the WeChat platform.
The move will further boost the promotion of information in Mongolian, according to Altantsan.
The relevant departments of the State Council further communicated with Altantsan regarding his proposals. They said the central government would advance in seven areas to accelerate ethnic education growth and improve the overall development level of education in ethnic areas.
The central government is also planning to invest funds to promote the Mongolian public platform's creation on WeChat.
