Summer Sessions are now open for applications! This summer, NYU Shanghai is offering two options for undergraduates:
Two 6 week sessions covering a wide range of courses (taught in English)
One 9 week Summer Chinese Immersion Program that covers a year of Chinese studies in 2+ months
Who Can Apply
We welcome undergraduates with at least one year of full-time undergraduate study at the start of the program.
Our Summer Sessions are popular with students from NYU Shanghai, NYU in New York City, and NYU Abu Dhabi, but we have also hosted students from non-NYU universities, including Barnard College, Carnegie Mellon, Haverford College, Georgetown University, Tufts University, Vanderbilt University, University of California Berkeley, and Boston University.
About the Sessions
Students will engage in a comprehensive learning experience, benefiting from small class sizes and world class faculty. Weekend trips are available for students who want to explore Shanghai’s alleyways and historic neighborhoods, or venture farther to other areas of China.
All students will earn NYU credits and receive an NYU transcript after completing the courses. You may apply to your home school to use these NYU credits towards your degree.
6 Week Summer Sessions
Choose from a wide range of courses taught in English. Disciplines include business, computer science, social sciences, and the humanities. See below for a full listing of courses!
Faculty-led field trips are a highlight of NYU Shanghai Summer Sessions. In 2018, students from several courses went beyond classroom and visited Shanghai and its surrounding cities to combine theory with practice, expanding understanding and learning experience. Enquire below for more details.

9 Week Chinese Immersion Program
Get one year of Chinese study under your belt in a single summer. This intensive course helps you take your Chinese language skills from elementary to advanced in just over two months. Outside of class, you can take what you’ve learned and practice it in Shanghai’s dynamic urban environment.
