近期，西交利物浦大学iGEM团队今年首次参加国际遗传工程机器设计竞赛（International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition，简称iGEM）总决赛，并夺得银奖。

今年的iGEM竞赛在波士顿举行，吸引了来自哈佛大学、耶鲁大学、斯坦福大学、帝国理工学院等世界顶尖学府的250余支参赛代表队同台竞技。

西交利物浦大学iGEM学生团队由来自生物科学系、应用化学系、计算机系和建筑系的16名同学组成。

iGEM是合成生物学领域的国际顶级大学生科技赛事，由美国麻省理工学院(MIT)2003年创办。

此项竞赛受到Nature，Science，Scientific American，Economists等国际权威杂志，以及BBC等传统媒体的关注并进行专题报道，目前已具有相当大的国际影响力。

A team of XJTLU students won a silver prize at the International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition (iGEM), held in Boston, competing against more than 250 other teams from top universities worldwide.

iGEM is an international competition for students interested in the field of synthetic biology. Student teams are given a kit of biological parts and work to build and test biological systems in living cells, ranging from bacteria to mammalian cells.

The XJTLU team consisted of 16 students from the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Cumputer Science and Software Engineering, and Architecture.
