西浦学子捷报频传 XJTLU students impress competitors

最近两周，西浦学子又在重量级比赛中斩获佳绩，新生们要向学长学姐看齐喔~~

Recently XJTLU students have been out and about taking part in competitions, winning prizes and impressing their competitors!

在苏州工业园区举行的2015首届苏南全球创客大赛中，西浦本科学生团队“Hackthon”及其作品“智能巡逻机器人”在总决赛中脱颖而出，夺得大赛三等奖，并获得1万元创业资金奖励。

A team of students from the departments of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Computer Science and Software Engineering won a prize at the Sunan Global Makers Competition, held in Suzhou’s SIP district.

评委在比赛过程中对“智能巡逻机器人”给出了很高的评价，一致认为这是Make Block赛区唯一一个具有良好商业价值以及设计的一款作品。

Competing under the name ‘Hackthon’, the team had 42 hours to design and construct a working robot or droid. They came up with an intelligent patrol robot that judges said was “the only project with good practical and business value."

“Hackthon”团队由大四学生薄维汉、盛乾坤、大二学生李俊杰、Nicolas Keefe Sutanto、钱卓凡和赵之赫组成。

The team, made up of Bo Weihan, Sheng Qiankun (Year Four students), Li Junjie, Nicolas Keefe Sutanto, Qian Zhuofan and Zhao Zhihe (Year Two students), won third place and a RMB 10,000 cheque.

在台北举行的“地震工程模型制作国际竞赛"中，西浦建筑学专业学生连续第四年取得佳绩，获得“工程结构设计”一等奖、“最受观众喜爱好评”奖、地震安全证书以及建筑设计提名奖等多项殊荣。

For the fourth consecutive year, XJTLU undergraduate architecture students achieved outstanding results at the annual IDEERS (Introducing and Demonstrating Earthquake Engineering Research in Schools) earthquake safety design competition held in Taipei.

The competition requires competing student teams to construct multi-storey model towers that are loaded with steel weights and subjected to increasing earthquake stresses on a large earthquake simulation shake table.

Eight XJTLU students - Li Shaokang, Qian Shiyu, Yang Shihao and Zhang Xu and their support team Shao Fuwei, Li Jiaxu, Du Hanxi and Shen Xiaoya - spent the summer designing, testing and improving their tower design under the supervision of academics from the Department of Architecture.

Their hard work resulted in a first prize for structural engineering design, the audience-voted based Public Choice Award, an Earthquake Safety Certificate, and a nomination (top six) for an Architectural (Art) Design Award amongst 42 international teams competing in the undergraduate category.
