How has the rise of a middle class in China impacted the world? And what do we mean when we talk about the ‘middle class’ in China?

Tonight's China Talks will explore the growth of China's middle class consumers and examine their effect on the country’s development.

Today's speaker, Beibei Tang has studied and worked in China, UK and Australia. Her research focusses on social and political change in reform-era China.

She has undertaken extensive research on the people and cultures of China and has published research on social inequality, grassroots governance and state-society relations.
