KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Li-Heng Lee has been a festival and culture event curator, theatre director and culture critic in China for more than 15 years.
He was the first person to introduce European street art to China as the director in general of the City Square Arts Festival of the Shanghai Expo in 2010, inviting street art performers from Europe along with organising local troupes. As part of the Shanghai Expo, they presented more than 3,000 shows in six months to approximately four million people.
As the director of the concert “When East Meets West” in the Shanghai Arts Festival in 2015, he invited classical musicians from Belgium to collaborate with performers and musicians of the classical Chinese Kunqu opera, merging the music and aesthetics of J.S. Bach and Kunqu opera from the 17th century.
Four-hundred years after playwrights William Shakespeare in England and Tang Xian-Zu in China graced humanity with their works, Mr Lee curated a program of modern dance and Chinese classical theatre that mixed and matched story lines and characters from both famous authors’ works.
