9月22日，英国大学与科学国务部长乔·约翰逊（Jo Johnson）访问西交利物浦大学。作为大学、科学、研究与创新部长，此次访问是约翰逊先生对中国进行正式访问的一部分，旨在促进英国与江苏省在创新与高等教育领域的合作。

见证中英教育科研合作系列合作备忘录的签署

约翰逊先生首先出席了6项合作备忘录的签署仪式，其中包括英国大使馆文化教育处、西交利物浦大学奖学金项目合作备忘录及西交利物浦大学与江阴市政府合作备忘录等，加强英国与江苏省在研究、创新和高等教育领域的合作。

发表“中英教育合作”主旨演讲

访问期间，约翰逊先生在西浦南校区国际学术交流中心报告厅做了一场主题为“中英教育合作——在科研与教育领域紧密合作”的演讲。他在演讲中将西浦称为一项“伟大的成就”，并表示西浦十年来的发展引人瞩目。

约翰逊先生说：

“我们希望和中国携起手来，共同应对教育领域的挑战。在世界经济日益融合、全球化日益凸显的今天，在全世界范围内提高广大公民的知识技能和文化认知势在必行。”

“我祝福你们也感激你们，因为你们是传承中英友谊的使者，是两国关系发展的基石。我相信，你们必将为中英关系未来发展的光明前景贡献出伟大的力量。”

为“西浦国际研究中心”揭幕

约翰逊先生为西交利物浦大学国际研究中心揭幕。该研究中心将作为创业、商业化研究以及国际技术转让中心使用，推动苏州及周边地区的经济发展。

参观西浦校园与学生创业园

访问最后，约翰逊先生参观了西浦校园，并在大学生创业园驻足与学生亲切交谈。

Jo Johnson MP, United Kingdom Minister of State for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation, visited XJTLU on 22 September, as part of an official visit to China, which focused on innovation and higher education collaboration between the UK and Jiangsu province.

Collaborative MOUs

In order to celebrate the collaborative relationship between the UK and Jiangsu province, Mr Johnson witnessed the signing of six new agreements to deepen collaboration in research, innovation and higher education. These included a collaboration between XJTLU, the British Council, and financial services provider Gold Finance to introduce scholarships for British students to study television and film in China.

Address to XJTLU students and staff

As part of the visit, Mr Johnson also addressed students and staff at a lecture during which he called XJTLU an “extraordinary achievement” and said those involved in its development could be “tremendously proud”.

He said:

“We want to work with China to address the challenges in education, to develop globally aware citizens equipped with the skills and cultural understanding that is essential in today’s globalised economy.”

“You are all ambassadors of the UK-China friendship and the bedrock of the strong relationship between our two nations and, for that, I thank you.

“I know that you will all contribute greatly to the deep relationship between the UK and China in the months and years to come.”

XJTLU International Research Centre

While at XJTLU’s newly-opened South Campus, Mr Johnson unveiled the University’s International Research Centre, which will serve as a hub for entrepreneurship, research commercialisation, and international technology transfer, driving economic activity in Suzhou and the surrounding region.

To conclude his visit, Mr Johnson toured XJTLU’s campus via the University’s Enterprise Park facilities, which offer space to XJTLU students and alumni to house fledgling businesses and start-ups.
